I grew up without a deep understanding of Vietnamese culture. I felt quite distant to other Vietnamese due to the language barrier as well as lack of culture. I believe many Viet Kieus can relate to this feeling of isolation. However this past summer, I had the chance to explore my roots and learn so much more about it. I now feel a stronger connection to my heritage all due to this Vietnamese Society and embracing it whilst in Vietnam. Becoming the secretary of the Vietnamese society would allow me to not only immerse myself further but also to help create a welcoming space for others to engage with Vietnamese culture. Alleviating the gap between Viet Kieus and home Vietnamese is an ideology i'd strive to achieve. Organisation, planning and communication are key aspects that I live by on the daily. These skills will be beneficial for me to not only use, but to also develop during this role. I'd endevour to spread the love of Vietnamese culture to many more peers. :)

If elected, I will focus on organising intercultural events with universities across the UK to expand the UCL Vietnamese Society’s outreach and foster growth. While we already have a strong presence in the Southeast, there’s also a significant Vietnamese community in the North, where I have valuable connections that could help us organize future collaborative events.
In addition to social events, I aim to support international students in navigating their careers by inviting Vietnamese guest speakers from various sectors to provide guidance and share insights with students interested in career development.
To increase funding, I will actively seek new sponsorship opportunities and engage with Vietnamese businesses that could support future events, making our society even more multicultural.
I believe these objectives will have a positive impact on members by enriching our cultural activities and enhancing the professional development opportunities available, especially for international students exploring career paths in the UK.
I bring a wealth of leadership experience, including serving as House Captain and Senior Prefect in my boarding school, where I organized large-scale events with over 200 attendees and coordinated charity events that raised over £200. These roles have strengthened my skills in communication, time management, and problem-solving and have taught me how to effectively lead teams under pressure.
I am confident that my experience makes me a strong candidate.

From my very first days in London, I've felt a sense of displacement, missing the warmth of my homeland, Vietnam. Gone are the familiar scenes of sharing trà đá or nầm nướng vỉa hè with friends, surrounded by laughter and those uniquely Vietnamese jokes. It’s a reality that every Vietnamese student here likely faces, that homesickness, that longing for a taste of home.
But then I found the UCL VietSoc—a place that instantly felt like family. This community, bound by our shared roots and culture, is where I discovered familiar faces and genuine warmth in a city far from home. And at the very first event - the Mid-Autumn Festival - despite my introversion, I found myself joining conversations with new friends. We are all Vietnamese, and that bond makes it easy to connect, to laugh, and to feel at home.
Applying for the position of Secretary feels like an extension of this newfound family. I see this role as an opportunity to strengthen and deepen the connections that make our VietSoc so special. As Secretary, I’m ready to work closely with the President and the committee to make each event a memorable one, filled with that warmth and camaraderie we all miss from home. I’m committed to organizing our meetings efficiently, setting agendas that reflect our shared goals, and keeping everyone informed, ensuring that every member feels valued and included.
