Luca Zoppetti

Hi everyone! I'm Luca, a 3rd year BSc Physics student from Italy. I am staying at UCL for one year as an exchange student from the University of Bologna.

I decided to run for Social Secretary right after the amazing residential in the Lake District. I loved my time there and I would love to give back by helping the committee with organising future social events (hopefully with pizza!). Not only do I really enjoy hiking (you can see from the picture how happy I was when I hiked to one of the mountains near my hometown, in northern Italy), but I also have a lot of experience managing student activities: I was student representative for two years during high school and I then became president of the school's Students' Union. I developed good organizational and teamworking skills, so I think I would be the perfect fit for this position. Most importantly, expect a lot of smiles and good times together, because as we all know hiking is fun!

Valentino Thomas

My name is Valentino and I'm putting myself forward for the Social Secretary role for our hiking club!!
Some of you might have had the absolute pleasure of dealing with me on our recent Lake District residential, but you also might have seen me as a walk leader helping out on a couple walks so far!
I would love to become Social Secretary and help you all out by organising socials where you can meet new people and hang out and simply just have fun.

Some of my ideas:
• Game nights (card/party/board games)
• Movie nights (travel/adventure themed movies ofc)
• Future trips/residentials Dragons' Den-style pitching
• BBQ/Pizza nights
• Wetherspoons (/pub) food + drinks
• Pub quiz nights
• Bake off??
• Crossovers with other societies!!
• Lots of outdoor stuff in summer!!
• More Hiking ...... Fun!!

If any of that sounds awesome, please make time to go vote from Monday!!

Sarah Zhang

Hey everyone! I’m Sarah, a final year Economics and Business student. I’m excited to nominate myself as your next Social Secretary for the Hiking Club! Having loved every hike I’ve been on with this group and made some amazing friends along the way, I know firsthand how special our club is—and I’d love to help make it even better.

I’ll make sure we have an awesome lineup of events that keep us connected off the trails, too. Think cozy movie nights, trail-side picnics, pub crawls and maybe some themed hikes for added fun. I’m excited to bring people together, keep things organized, and make sure everyone feels welcome and involved. Let's make this year unforgettable for the Hiking Club—can’t wait to bring the fun!

Helllloo! I’m standing for Social Secretary for UCL’s hiking club as I feel we need some more exciting events, alongside our weekendly hikes to bring our huge society together! Since joining the UCL hiking this year, I’ve joined as a walk leader, and I would love to represent the society as a social secretary! My ideas: to introduce the chance to take day trips outside of London, like Blenheim Palace, Hampton Court (just examples), hiking-free, to wind down and relax; trips for novice hikers to wander some of the UK’s best national parks, like the New Forest to encourage more students to take up hiking as a hobby; and perhaps host a hiking ball- who wouldn’t to ditch their walking boots, and dress up for a night?

On my second week at UCL I managed to organise a very, very, last minute trip to watch the Northern Lights, a crazy ideas indeed, where around 40-50 of you lovely people from the hiking club showed up, with me worried I had dragged you up to Primrose Hill for nothing… anddddd we saw the northern lights! I’d love to organise more events like we had that night (minus the northern lights… but maybe a hiking residential to Iceland in the future??? 🤔😉), and meet so many more people! I’ve hosted a number of events in the past, and I think with UCL Hiking Society being the best society there is… (read that line again… sorry for the cringe x), I’d love to represent you all as a social secretary, to bring some exciting, innovative and fun events to the society!
