Film music has long been shaped by jazz, featuring iconic themes and incredible moments. UCL Jazz Society’s Jazz Goes to the Movies will take you through an immersive experience from the silver screen, featuring timeless hits from Whiplash, James Bond, The Incredibles and more!
Prepare for an evening that showcases Jazz Society’s finest, boasting an impressive selection from the society’s own Big Band, Small Bands and Choir. Screening for two nights only at the Bloomsbury Theatre, sit down, eat some popcorn and enjoy the show!

Medea – 20-22 November
An adaption of the Greek tragedy set in 1853 Colonial India, Ben Power’s Medea blazes to life in a bold new vision. When Jason betrays Medea to marry into the ruling colonial family, he believes he’s chosen security. What he’s unleashed is vengeance. In a world where widowed women are meant to disappear into shadows, Medea refuses to be silent — and she will make them all hear her.
Once the first thread unravels, the whole world begins to burn - and the tragedy that follows will consume all. Visually stunning, emotionally devastating and historically charged, this is Medea like you’ve never seen it before.

Sister Act – 27-29 November
Packed with outrageous comedy, show-stopping songs, and disco sparkle – get ready to raise your voice and your spirits with Sister Act the Musical!
In the funky, soul-filled world of 1970s Philadelphia, struggling singer Deloris witnesses a crime. Placed in a convent under witness protection – complete with quirky nuns, gangsters on her trail, and zero idea of how to behave, Deloris quickly discovers a new purpose as she transforms the tone-deaf convent choir into a renowned show-stopping gospel sensation that’s truly second to nun.
Featuring signature show-stopping songs from Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, this high-energy production promises big laughs, bigger voices and a pack of dancing nuns in an ultimate feel-good, holy rollercoaster of a musical. Hallelujah!

Richard II – 29 -31 January
Richard’s rule is one of eyes and cameras. Incompetent and unchallenged, he governs a tyrannical surveillance state, leaving the nation in social and ecological disrepair.
However, as rebellion begins to germinate, disrepair turns into political meltdown, testing the strength of Richard’s leadership. Shakespeare’s Renaissance work centred on a medieval king provides a shockingly modern examination of unchecked power: how it erodes both our morality and our environment. Is change possible when the system is already broken?
