Your Role
Represent the collective interests of commuter students related to events, belonging and transport. Working with the Welfare & Community Officer, represent the needs and priorities that students have with being a Commuter within the Union, UCL and beyond. The Commuter Students' Officer will also lead the Union’s new established Commuter Students' Network to continuing to build an engaging, dynamic and rewarding community of Commuter students and make sure that the Network caters to and is inclusive of all its members.
Issues You May Work On
As a Student Officer, you will work closely with students, as well as Sabbatical Officers. Issues may vary depending on student concern. As this is a new role for the 2026/27 academic year, you will have the opportunity to start new projects and ideas such as:
- Signposting students towards societies that require low level commitments.
- Organise commuter-friendly social activities.
- Represent the views of Commuter students in the Union's democratic structures, within UCL and beyond.
Meetings You Will Attend
- Welfare & Community Zone – Five meetings throughout the year. You will be working with the Welfare & Community Officer and others to advocate for commuter students at UCL.
Your Eligibility
Any UCL student who self-defines as a Commuter student.
Time Required For Role
This is a part-time, unpaid position. You are expected to attend Welfare and Community Zone meetings and spend time speaking with students and lead the Network alongside your committee. This role will take approximately 15-20 hours per term. Job shares are welcome.
Welcome and Training
The role is supported by a full programme of training, development and support to help build all of the skills and knowledge required and to support longer term personal development. This includes a two day training session at the end of May/Start of June.
