What we require from the organisations we work with
- Safety and Insurance
- We ask that your organisations accepts liability for volunteers and have appropriate insurance cover in place. We also require you to have a health and safety policy that complies with UK legislation. Volunteering locations should have appropriate fire safety procedures, access to first aid equipment and systems for recording accidents. You will also be asked to carry out risk assessments for all volunteer activities.
- Volunteer Experience
- We want students to feel supported from day one, so organisations should have a written volunteering policy, provide a clear induction, training and ongoing support for volunteers. Organisations should have a named member of staff responsible for supervising volunteers, and operate fair and inclusive recruitment processes and make reasonable adjustments where needed and possible. If you'd like some support making your activities as accessible as possible - our team will be happy to help you. You should have appropriate safeguarding policies when working with children, young people or vulnerable adults. We require organisations to be committed to equality, inclusion and a zero-tolerance approach to harassment and sexual misconduct.
- Communication
- To help us work effectively together, organisations should keep opportunity information and contact details up to date, respond promptly to volunteer enquiries, handle volunteer data responsibly and in line with GDPR requirements and notify us of any concerns relating to UCL student volunteers.
- Expenses
- We ask that you reimburse volunteer travel expenses for ongoing volunteering roles. We will cover student expenses for one-off volunteering in our Big Help Outs. We ask that you provide or reimburse lunch expenses (up to £10) when volunteers are giving a full day of their time.
