The Academic Rep of the Year Awards celebrate those Reps who went the extra mile to represent students, and have worked with staff to make students' academic experience better.

An Academic Rep of the year is awarded in each Faculty, and an overall winner is selected from the Faculty winners.

Nominations for the Academic Rep of the Year Award ran from Monday 3 March - Friday 25 April 2025

A total of 292 nominations were received across the eleven faculties, for 137 individual Academic Reps.

Overall Winner - Tejas Taware

Tejas has been a transformative force within his department and beyond.  He held student feedback and student voice at the core of his work, continuously gathering feedback from his peers and ensuring it is acted on. This led to the creation of many initiatives and changes within his department such as resolving marking variance issues, implementing stress-reducing assessment changes, and organising end of term socials.  He was praised for his approachability, dedication and proactive nature, and his commitment and passion has set a high standard for Academic Reps.

Faculty Winners

Congratulations to our Academic Rep of the Year Faculty Winners! This award recognises their outstanding dedication, hard work, and commitment to representing and advocating for the interests of students. Their efforts not only enhanced the academic experience, but also significantly contributed to the overall improvement of their faculties.

Meghan Hewitt - Arts & Humanities

Meghan has shown exceptional dedication, professionalism and genuine care in fostering a strong sense of community and effectively advocating for student interests.  She advocated for part-time student inclusion in events and academic opportunities, 0rganized a graduate conference and end-of-term social to build community, and maintained consistent communication and feedback loops between students and staff. She also improved engagement with PhD students and fostered cross-cohort collaboration.

Tejas Taware - Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment 

Tejas has demonstrating outstanding commitment to advocating for student needs. He resolved grading inconsistencies, improved assessment clarity, and introduced question banks and revision sessions to reduce exam stress. He also advocated for timetable improvements and initiated a field trip proposal. Tejas further worked to strengthen student-faculty communication and organized social events to build community.

Xueyang Niu - Brain Sciences 

Xueyang has done incredible work in gathering and sharing student feedback, leading to significant improvements in assessment scheduling and peer tutorial usage. She provided detailed, accessible feedback for students across time zones in an online programme and helped improve assessment scheduling and peer tutorial structures. Xueyang also created visual feedback tools to support course development in a new programme.

Delisha Kohli - Education & Society - IOE 

Delisha has been oustanding in working to improve the experience of postgraduate students across her department. She organized academic writing sessions and a Master’s Fair to support student development. She also advocated for PhD student needs and improved communication channels, leading initiatives like the Changemaker Project and PHD Awards to enhance engagement and support.

Rohan Ahmad - Engineering Sciences

Rohan has shown exceptional leadership in resolving academic issues, organising community events, and enhancing student-faculty communication.  He not only advocated for clearer grading and assessment policies across multiple modules, but also organized department-wide social events and improved communication tools. He further led SPC meetings and collaborated on initiatives like bike safety and handbook improvements. Rohan also supported students individually with academic processes and feedback.

Yasmin Hanan, Zoe Haramis & David Metin - Laws

As a team, Yasmin, Zoe and David have been outstanding in gathering student feedback, improving resources, and fostering inclusivity within the LLM programme. They did so by improving the inclusivity of and and resources in the LLM student common room and raising academic concerns to the Faculty Board and Education Team. They represented both full-time and part-time students effectively by running high-response student feedback surveys and maintaining strong communication with staff.

Liv Kobberstad - Life Sciences

Liv has done incredible work in significantly enhancing academic support and student engagement both in and beyond her department. She created Peer-to-Peer Exam Workshops that are now expanding across UCL and collaborated with staff and the Union to scale initiatives and improve student wellbeing. She also launched Common Room Lates to foster community and academic support and represented students at high-level meetings and conferences.

Claudia De Sousa Miranda Perez - Mathematical & Physical Sciences

Claudia has been an exceptional advocate for postgraduate research students this year. She advocated for fixed stipend timelines and improved PhD office conditions, resolved issues with PGTA teaching material delays, and actively shared key updates and opportunities with peers via WhatsApp and meetings.

Solon Fountzopoulos - Medical Sciences

In his second year as Undergraduate Faculty Rep, Solon has shown outstanding dedication to the role. He founded and led the Medical Sciences Student Talent Show, promoting community and fundraising. He also helped make faculty-wide improvements to UG research project coordination by addressing key issues, and built strong student-staff relationships. Solon also supported peer development initiatives.

Hannah Ford - Population Health Sciences

Hannah has done outstanding work in fostering community for the postgraduate research community in her faculty. She did so by organising social events and faculty-wide pub quizzes to reduce PhD student isolation. She also co-led the 3-Minute Thesis competition. Furthermore, Hannah chaired SPC and Health & Safety meetings, promoted student rep roles, and supported induction activities across her faculty.

Kynan Ho - Social & Historical Sciences

Kynan has been exceptional in advocating for undergraduate student interests in his department this year. He improved dissertation support, clarified assessment policies, and created an internal module catalogue. He also proposed a research opportunities platform, led SPC meetings, supported social event planning, and promoted NSS participation. Kynan further championed transparency and inclusivity through regular updates and collaborative initiatives.
