Name of Event: Into the Wild Residential Trip

Volunteer Role: This 3 day residential trip for our secondary school students taking part in the Yes Futures personal development programme, aimed at developing young people’s confidence, resilience, communication and self awareness: vital to ensuring they lead fulfilling lives.

Into the Wild is an exciting part of the programme where our students are taken to the countryside to a PGL activity centre. Stepping outside of their comfort zone, students come together with other schools on an action packed three day residential, taking on practical outdoor challenges such as rock climbing and rafting!

We require volunteers to support the young people as assistant group leaders to ensure they get the best out of the weekend! It is a chance to meet other like-minded volunteers, develop your skills and have a fun weekend away in the British countryside.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting staff and students to encourage the participation and engagement of the students throughout the weekend
  • Ensuring the development of the students skills and talents by assisting with reflection sessions, feedback and reward systems
  • Supporting young people with the activities, particularly those who need extra mentoring or guidance, with the supervision of trip leaders
  • Organising and communicating with our students to ensure they are aware of timetables, agendas, bedroom arrangements and clothing requirements for activities
  • Escalating any behavioural or pastoral issues to the trip leaders

Participation in the activities is optional, and full support and detailed briefings will be given by both PGL and Yes Futures staff. All food and accommodation provided. Experience of working with young people is useful but not essential – bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get involved!

We can provide travel for volunteers from central London and have buses heading out from several locations in London.

When: Volunteers will be needed from 13:00 on Friday 5 until 15:00 Sunday 7 July

Where: PGL Liddington

Volunteer Places: Up to 5
