Saturday 20 July 2019 (All day) to Friday 9 August 2019 (All day)

Name of Event: Hill End Camp and Wales Holidays

Volunteer Role: Volunteer for a week, in July or August, joining our enthusiastic teams at Oxford and District Mencap’s summer holiday camps in a beautiful rural setting! After training you will be giving 1-1 support to a guest with a learning disability and engaging them in the many holiday activities.

We have 3 weeks (4 separate camps) every summer based in Oxfordshire and one week in Wales. On any of the weeks, you can expect to work with guests aged 18 up to about 30-40+. All our guests have some degree of learning disability, but are generally physically able, although some might have wheelchairs for long distances and/or have some other difficulties.

Activity-wise, all weeks follow similar schedules - all your normal summer holiday activities - bowling, BBQ, zoo, theme park, swimming, disco, etc. We want each guest to have the best holiday possible (for many this is their only break) so the aim as a volunteer is to be a ‘buddy’ to your allocated guest and get them fully involved in each activity.

Above all, it’s about working hard and having fun, and these are very much the over-riding themes of our holidays! There is a training day and our volunteers say that the experience has changed their attitude positively to people with a learning disability.

When: From Sat 20 July-Friday 9 August (one week per holiday and we expect volunteers to volunteer for one week). Wales week is September 14 – 21.

Where: Hill End Camp near Oxford and one week in Wales

Volunteer Places: 10-20
