Whilst women such as Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald are known for their contributions to jazz, women have generally received far less recognition for their contributions to jazz as performers, composers and band leaders. This distinct lack of female representation in jazz is seen throughout the jazz community today, including in our own jazz society.

So, as part of UCL’s This Girl Can week, we are running a women-orientated jazz workshop. This will be a beginner friendly improvising workshop- we will discuss how to get around a very basic chord sequence, as easily or complexly as you like!! This will be a safe space for those identifying as women to learn, play and sing
together. Let’s halt the fear of judgement that is stopping more women joining in and prove that this girl can play jazz!

Welcome to singers and instrumentalists alike! You do not need jazz membership to attend!

Please register your place via the booking link so we know how many to expect!
