What are the links between climate change and gender? Is Climate change a sexist issue?

Climate change has a disproportionate impact on women around the globe. Women commonly face higher risks and greater burdens from the impacts of climate change in situations of poverty, and the majority of the world’s poor are women(1). Women have also been on the front line of providing solutions and fighting against climate change (2)

This was recognised by the UN in 2017 at COP23 where the first Gender Action Plan was announced highlighting the ever more important role women have within the fight against climate change. (3)

So how does climate change affect genders differently? How are we making sure to address this pressing divide?
