Hello all and welcome to UCL Life Sciences first talk of the year! We are extremely proud to host Professor Richard Barker OBE, who will be discussing ‘Translating the Life Sciences into Human Longevity’.

Professor Barker received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Exeter College, Oxford, and went on to pursue a DPhil in magnetic resonance techniques, before travelling to Germany and Leeds for post-doctoral studies.

Richard has held a number of notable positions in companies across Europe and the US, including general manager of IBM’s healthcare business, and heading the Association of the British Pharmacological Industry for 6 years. He was the founder of the collaboration for the advanced sustainable medical innovation, or CASMI. A partnership between UCL and Oxford committed to understanding and developing better and more sustainable means of effecting medical innovation.

He has also authored books titled ‘2030: the Future of medicine’ and, more recently ‘Biosciences- Lost in translation?’.
