Gene Drive Mosquito and Malaria: Should technology mitigate climate-induced health risks?

Changes in climate have been shown to alter the life cycle of mosquitoes carrying vector-borne diseases, such as dengue and malaria. New “gene drive” genetic engineering techniques aim to decrease mosquito populations or make them pathogen resistant, constituting a potential “technological fix” for a great public health challenge exacerbated by climate change.

But how sustainable are “technological fixes” in the long term? And how do they address issues of justice in the distribution of responsibility and burden of this problem?

The Healthy Planet team invites you to come discuss these questions and many others in our very first Journal Club of the year on February 9th 2021 from 6.00pm-7.30pm.
