Thursday 25 March 202111.00 to 12.00

The UCL Edukeeners Society is proud to kick-start our new series of Fireside Chats with our first guest, Dr. Katya Gabriele Saville!

Fireside Chats is our latest initiative to connect our diverse community of Edukeeners with UCL faculty members, during Covid restrictions. The initiative seeks to create the (virtual) space for informal conversations, akin to ‘Cheese and Wine’ evenings with faculty pre-pandemic. Our guest faculty member will choose to share with us nuggets of knowledge from their professional and personal lives, in a short 15min presentation. The rest of the session will then be reserved for an informal exchange between students and our guest, either related to the topic of their presentation or anything else, based on a pre-provided bio.

Our first guest is Dr. Katya Gabriele Saville, who will be talking to us on 25 March 2021, 11am-12pm.

Guest background and interests:

Dr. Saville has been a lecturer at UCL since 2017. She’s a researcher on Wellcome-funded project ‘Optimising 2020 secondary school transition processes during the Covid-19 pandemic’, where she’s been interviewing and surveying Y6 and Y7 teachers. She’s also a seminar leader and module tutor on ‘Understanding Research’ & ‘What is Education’: supporting the teaching of research methods and educational theory; running group tutorials and conducting assessments. Her responsibilities also include being a dissertation supervisor: helping students design, refine and conduct final dissertation studies and assessment of final submissions.

Dr Saville is also a visiting lecturer at Trinity College on BA (QTS) Education Level 4 ‘Broad and Balanced Curriculum’ module - Foreign languages specialism. She is also running teaching sessions and assessing across Level 4 and 5 BA Education and PGCE programmes (Supporting Individual Students; Modern Foreign Languages; Alternative Placements; Immersion experiences).
