Your Role

You will be a full time Sabbatical Officer of the Students’ Union working full time to provide leadership to the Students’ Union’s services; and representing the interests of students to UCL, including participating in UCL committees and regular meetings with senior staff.

 

You will be the lead officer in all issues relating to wellbeing and equality for all students and in representing the interests of international students.  You will work to support the Union’s liberation and equality networks to make sure that UCL is inclusive of and responsive to all students. As Welfare & International Officer, you will lead the Union in making UCL as fair, accessible and welcoming an environment as possible, and ensure that the Union addresses the specific needs of international students

Your Responsibility

  • Represent the interests and needs of students to decision-making bodies within the university, the Union and beyond
  • Co-chair UCL’s Student Health and Wellbeing Strategy Group (with the Pro-Vice Provost for Student Experience)
  • Represent the interests of international students in and beyond UCL
  • Create and lead your own campaigns to improve student wellbeing and welfare
  • Chair the Welfare & Community Zone, a democratic forum for passing Union policies to do with students’ wellbeing on campus and in the wider community
  • Work with the Union’s liberation and equality networks to support them in building effective and inclusive networks and communities and in their work towards equality and fair treatment of all students
  • Organise activities and events to ensure that international students are supported and welcomed at UCL
  • Be the lead officer for Union campaigns for affordable and accessible student housing
  • Support elected Part-time Officers when working across liberation campaigns and on accommodation issues
  • Be a Trustee of the Students’ Union and a member of the Students’ Union Leadership Team

This is a full time role over a 12.5 month period, from 1 July 2020 – 15 July 2021

35 hours per week plus a range of additional events

Salary: £25k (approx.)
