The Tutor Plus Project is split into two parts – Maths Tutoring and the Reading Programme. Volunteers can choose to be involved in either or both parts, and are expected to commit to at least one session per week. Maths Tutoring is during school hours from Monday to Friday at St Charles Catholic Primary School, where volunteers provide additional support in lessons. Volunteers can choose to help pupils in Lower KS2 (7-9 years old) or Upper KS2 (9-11 years old), and will be allocated to the same class every week. An Enhanced DBS check is required and all expenses, including transport costs to and from the school, will be reimbursed. The programme will start whenever volunteers receive their DBS certificate. The Reading Programme is a pull-out programme for students who require attention in their literacy skills. Volunteers will be working with students from Maria Fidelis Catholic School FCJ (Years 7-9) during lunchtime, at 1:30-2 p.m. Sessions are held from Monday to Friday and volunteers will be paired with a mentee whom they will guide throughout both terms. The programme will commence on 29th October, 2018. The project runs for the first two terms, with the option for volunteers to continue during the third term. There will be breaks during UCL Reading Weeks, the Winter Break and the Spring Break, as well as any breaks that the partner schools have. These will be communicated to volunteers in advance.
