Community Southwark
At Community Southwark we support charities, community groups and individuals through capacity building, volunteering and social action. We empower local people and voluntary organisations with the tools they need, to work together in creating a borough that works for everyone. Our vision is for a Southwark in which all communities and individuals can fulfil and exceed their potential.

Healthwatch Southwark was established in April 2013 as the new health and social care consumer champion in the borough representing residents, service users, carers and organisations within Southwark. We listen to the needs and experiences of Southwark residents on health and social care services and use those experiences to influence the professionals who plan, buy and deliver services so that they can be improved.

What is ‘Enter and View’? As a local Healthwatch, we have special legal powers to 'Enter and View' local health and social care services. This means we can enter and view (visit) all publicly funded health and social care services premises and speak to those using the services about their experience and how the service is working to speak to people about their experiences.

Where does Enter and View apply? Legislation allows ‘Enter and View’ activity to be undertaken in the following organisations or persons:

  • NHS Trusts
  • NHS Foundation Trusts
  • Local Authorities
  • GPs
  • Dental Surgeries
  • Opticians
  • Pharmacies
  • Adult social care homes and day-care centres

Who can carry out an ‘Enter and View’? An authorised Enter and View representative is a trained volunteer who can 'enter and view' health and social care settings in Southwark and help to gather the experiences and views of patients, consumers, carers and the wider public on behalf of Healthwatch Southwark. Time commitment

How much time is involved?
Enter and View visits will happen throughout the year, you will be informed of any upcoming visits in advance and will be asked if you would like to participate in the visits.

Enter and view visits usually last for 2-3 hours, in addition you will need to keep some time to write your feedback or be involved in a post visit feedback meeting.

We would like to request that all Enter and View representatives (trained authorised members) are committed to support the Enter and View Programme for a minimum of 3 months.
Application deadline
What measures have you put in place to ensure volunteers’ safety during COVID-19?
Volunteers will be base remotely until safe to volunteer at our office or in the community. We currently have social distancing measure in place at the office with a Risk Assessment in place that is reviewed on an ongoing basis. Risk assessment will be in place for volunteers travelling to different locations across Southwark in line with covid-19 measures.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch at any time with any questions, queries or problems you encounter.
