Light Bulb Club
We are an educational project aimed at students in Year 5-6 of primary school, founded in Shanghai, China in 2018. As of 2021 we have educated a total of 107 students. This year marks the establishment of our first overseas branch in London, UK.

In Light Bulb Club's subject of Design, science and technology are integrated with art and aesthetics in creating designs. Our aim is to inspire students to create their own innovative and aesthetically appealing projects to improve the lives of people around them.

Time commitment

Class sessions will be held from January to March 2022 for 10 weeks. During this period, volunteers will participate in 3 online sessions with children per week: Two after-school sessions during weekdays involving only students in London, and one weekend session involving students in both London and Shanghai, China.

From April to June 2022 students will be working individually or in groups on their own projects. Weekly sessions will be held for volunteers to supervise and guide students' work.
Application deadline
What measures have you put in place to ensure volunteers’ safety during COVID-19?
Our current plan is to conduct all workshop sessions online. However, if the pandemic eases sufficiently for in-person sessions to be conducted safely, all volunteers and students would be required to wear masks during sessions and display negative COVID results before the first session. Classrooms will be sanitized and ventilated before each session starts, and desks will be arranged apart to promote social distancing.

The Final Exhibition of students' projects in June/July 2022 will likely be an in-person event at the partner organization (school or nonprofit). Masks will be mandatory for all volunteers, students and visitors or they will be refused entrance.

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
