Description

We're looking for volunteers to help support Afghan Refugees temporarily housed in Camden. At the moment, we need volunteers who can speak Dari, Pashto or Farsi to work closely with Hopscotch’s Refugee Family Advocates.

 

 

Duties

Working closely with Hopscotch’s Refugee Family Advocates
• Working in a trauma informed, boundaried and empowering manner with individuals, promoting independence and goal setting
• Supporting people to develop their knowledge of rights and entitlements
• Assist in completing needs assessment and developing plans of action with partner organisations
• Preferably to provide friendly /confidential interpreting service in the following languages- Dari, Pashto and Farsi
• Keeping accurate record of meetings
• Be a part of a team planning and facilitating enjoyable, informative activity sessions for women and children. This may include opportunities for face to face work, supporting women’s workshops, etc.
• Signposting to other partner agencies
• Help with IT support and admin work
• Provide practical support and guidance
• Submit paperwork for a free DBS check before commencement of family facing volunteering
• Attend regular individual and group supervision sessions and training – as necessary

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Afghan Refugees and with our Refugee Family Advocates
Training
Volunteers will be trained up in our Trauma Informed approach and with cultural awareness

Time commitment

Volunteers should be able to give at least 3 - 4hours per week, with most activities during 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday.

We're expecting that the refugees will be in the temporary accommodation for 3 months, possibly longer - and would like volunteers to be available for at least 3 months.
