Situated on the leafy banks of the Thames, it is surrounded by gardens that have been restored to reflect their original status

Our Welcome Guides offer a high standard of customer service to our visitors. They’ll inform visitors of daily events and sell guidebooks.

You’ll be able to spend time within the beautiful setting of Ham and be able to make friends through a big volunteering team. Your volunteering will make a valued contribution to our heritage and you’ll learn key skills involved in running a visitor attraction.

Role Aim: 

Our Welcome Guides offer a high standard of customer service to our visitors. They’ll inform visitors of daily events, sell guidebooks and ensure they are aware of the constraints when visiting Ham House that are essential to the safekeeping of the property.

Duties: 

• Provide a friendly welcome and a high level of customer service.

• Ensuring that the various constraints on visitors (relating to photography, disabled access, bag storage) are applied in a professional and sympathetic manner.

• Providing information about daily events and facilities.

• Maintaining a tidy and presentable reception area.

• Promoting and selling guide books and raffle tickets.

• Getting to know and implementing health and safety evacuation procedures.

• Answering questions from visitors regarding the collection and tailoring information to ensure we meet the individual needs of our guests.

• Learn and share Ham’s history and stories.

• Engaging with a wide range of audiences.

Skills needed: 

• Have excellent communication skills.

• Enjoy working in a customer-facing role and meeting people’s needs.

• Have an interest in the history of Ham House

• Want to work as part of a friendly and dedicated team.

• Keen to learn skills involved in running a visitor attraction

Ham House, Ham Street Richmond Upon Thames TW10 7RS
Time commitment: 
1-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
Shifts available weekly or fortnightly; 4 hour shifts. We are open every day of the week.
