Octavia Foundation

Octavia Foundation supports people affected by ill health, social isolation, low income or unemployment in central and west London.

Our charity shop volunteers play a crucial role in all of our charity shops and make a significant contribution towards their success.

We are always looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers who can commit to volunteering in our shops for a minimum of four hours per week for at least three months.

The role is varied and can include sorting stock, operating tills and handling cash, working on the shop floor and dealing with customers.

Volunteering in our charity shops presents a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and experiences and to enhance your CV and employment prospects whilst meeting new people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

We can provide references to employers and/or further education establishments.

Role Aim: 

Help to raise money for the Octavia Foundation and support the work we do in the local community.


• Sort and price appropriately donated items we regularly receive.

• Provide an excellent customer service and a high end shopping experience.

• Operating tills and handling cash.

• Maintain a high level of shop presentation.

Skills needed: 

• Enjoy meeting different people

• Loving Fashion

• Promote and apply Octavia Foundation Policies

• Interest in retail and sourcing specialist donated items


Training and coaching in procedures and best practice necessary will be given. These will be clearly set out in the induction to the shop. One to one support session with either the Shop Manager or the Volunteer Coordinator will also be provided.

In a Preferred Octavia Foundation Shop
Time commitment: 
3-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
7 days a week, mornings and afternoons available
Once you’ve registered interest in this volunteering role, we’ll send your name and UCL email address to the organisation for their records. You’ll also receive information about the next steps to take if you do wish to take things forward. The organisation has signed up to our code of standards, which includes a commitment to protecting your data. We won’t share your information with anyone unless you’ve given explicit consent to.
