About the organisation

Kith & Kids

We need volunteers that can support help our members (children and young adults with autism and/or learning disabilities) to have lots of fun and challenge themselves in a host of activities throughout the year! Kith & Kids’ aim is to empower our members and their families to develop new skills, gain greater confidence and overcome social exclusion.

We have an activity to suit the interest and availability of anyone as you can join us on weekends, evenings, weekdays or school holidays. We run a Youth Group, Weekend Club, Social Development Project, Summer Camp, Employment & Life Skills Project for adults with autism and much more!

Application deadline:
Tuesday, 9 July 2019

We are looking for some new volunteers to join in our Employment & Life Skills Project (ELSP) and help adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to access further education, work experience and visits to mainstream community opportunities. ELSP takes place on a Monday and a Friday from 10am to 3pm, term-time.

Kith & Kids are looking for volunteers to commit to the project on a regular basis in order to fully benefit the members that take part in it. Through regular support and meetings, members and volunteers develop greater trust, skills and confidence together. Please note that the minimum age to volunteer with the ELSP group(s) is 20 years old.

Role Aim:

Our Employment & Life Skills Project (ELSP) helps adults with learning disabilities or autism to access further education, work experience and visits to mainstream community opportunities.

You’ll act as a mentor to the members of the group. You’ll be helping the group(s) develop a range of life skills, things that many of us take for granted. These include Maths and English skills, independent living, the use of public transport, social skills and even the sourcing of employment.

For the people in these groups, these things can be very difficult to develop and achieve without regular support. Through regular support and meetings, members and volunteers develop greater trust, skills and confidence together.

Skills needed:

No previous experience is necessary, just a lot of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and experience new things. Volunteers must complete two training sessions and a DBS check before taking part.

Volunteers must attend at least two training days and complete a free DBS check before you begin volunteering.

This is a great opportunity to get to know everyone at Kith & Kids: your fellow volunteers, some of our members you will be working with, and also gives the opportunity to develop some new skills and expand your knowledge in our workshops.

Topics we cover include:

• Autism

• Safeguarding

• Creativity & Participation

• Negotiation & Boundaries
