Oxfam Helps Lift Lives For Good -

Help Oxfam end global poverty and suffering by volunteering in our Islington High Street charity shop. Volunteers help sort, price and merchandise incoming donations, help customers at the till, teach and encourage others, and learn to work as part of a larger team of volunteers within a retail environment. Potential to learn more about retail processes and online marketplaces are also available. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one 4 ½ hour shift each week for a minimum of three months. Do you want to help end global poverty and suffering? Help Oxfam lift others’ lives for good by volunteering in our Islington High Street charity shop. We need enthusiastic, fun, reliable and dedicated volunteers to join our friendly team in a fast-paced retail environment. Duties include sorting, pricing and visually merchandising donated stock, plus offering fantastic and friendly customer service to shoppers. Volunteers will learn more about retail processes and self-directed work as part of a larger team, plus assist in training new volunteers. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one 4 ½ hour shift per week for at least three months; weekday and weekend shifts are available. Previous experience is not necessary, as full training will be provided, although an interest in fashion or retail would complement this role. Role Aim: 

Volunteers will join our team to develop and enhance their customer service skills within a retail environment, plus learn to work as part of a team to maximise the shop’s potential & raise as much money as possible for Oxfam’s work to end poverty and suffering.

Duties: 

Receiving, sorting, and pricing donated stock; visually merchandising the shop floor to enhance its appeal; offering fantastic and friendly customer service to shoppers; and potential to learn till operation.

Skills needed: 

Volunteers should be friendly, reliable, and able to work as part of a team within shop guidelines. Volunteers also need to be flexible and adaptable to a dynamic environment, where different tasks may be assigned depending on the needs of the day. No previous retail experience is required, but an interest in retail and/or fashion is helpful.

Training: 

Volunteers will be given a full health and safety induction during the first shift. Full training for sorting, pricing and merchandising donated stock will be provided, along with the potential for training of till operation. Training for good sales practices and customer service will also be provided.
