About the organisation

Church Urban Fund

CUF was established by the Church of England as a practical response to unmet need and has been active in local communities for over 30 years. Our vision is to see people and communities all over England flourish and enjoy life in all its fullness.

We work through the Church of England’s local parish networks, and alongside other faith-based and secular organisations, to bring about positive change in neighbourhoods.

We work by building trust, empowering local people to have a go at addressing the areas of greatest need in their communities, and speaking out against injustice.

We are committed to working through relational partnerships which bring about long-term, sustainable change by mobilising local people to be the source of the change they want to see and to use the assets already available in their community.

We bring about change in three ways.

Through the Together Network, a network of local relational partnerships, we work with churches, national and local government, charities and foundations, as well as individual supporters, to bring about positive change in communities.

We run themed, National Programmes to support local communities in bringing about the change they want to see.

Volunteer at an exclusive Garden Party at Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s house!

Come and experience working in events and fundraising for CUF, a social action charity working with the homeless, the hungry and the lonely whilst developing your interpersonal skills and helping to transform lives.

Role Aim:

All roles will help volunteers to gain an insight into working in Events and Fundraising, with the opportunity to experience events logistics, quick thinking problem solving, and event management. Lambeth Palace is home to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the gardens are only open for 6 days a year so this is also a great opportunity to experience something special.

Roles available:

Front of House: This includes looking after ticket sales, welcoming guests and talking to them about what is going on at the party. A crib sheet will be provided. This is a great opportunity to work on your customer service skills, and the way you interact with people.

Hospitality: During the event we will need some people to talk to and look after our guests, ensuring they feel welcomed and are having the best possible experience at our garden party. Approaching guests is a great way to work on your ability to network and put people at ease, this is a great skill and will be beneficial to employment and good experience building your network in the future.

Catering: We will be serving cream teas during the event which is taking place over lunch time, therefore we are expecting our refreshment team to be very busy. Working in this area you are likely to experience working under pressure but this is also an excellent chance for you to practice staying calm and composed in a stressful situation an experience that will serve you well in interviews and future employment.

Face painting: We will be offering face painting at our garden party as a little something for children (or anyone that would like it!). As well as being something fun to be involved in there is the opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills whilst conversing with customer and accompanying guests.
