About the organisation

Centre 404

Centre 404 is a charity that offers friendly, reliable and person centred support to people with a learning disability and their families in north London. It was founded in 1951 by carers of children with learning disabilities and continues to work towards building a community and a society where people with learning disabilities are valued and involved members of our community. Over the years, Centre 404 has built vital services in Islington and across north London that have enabled children and adults with a learning disability and their families to have a voice and access to activities and support.

Volunteers needed to help buddy our adult volunteers with mild to moderate learning disabilities in the garden. No gardening skills required! The group of around 10 meet weekly to do light gardening work (weeding, watering, etc.) for an hour and then have an hour tea break to chat. Receive the therapeutic value of being outdoors while reaping the mental benefits of volunteering by giving back and making new friends!

Role Aim: 

To help support our garden volunteers who have learning disabilities. The garden group teaches new skills while building relationships.

Duties: 

No previous garden experience required! Volunteers needed to help support our adult garden volunteers who have mild to moderate learning disabilities with various gardening tasks. Tasks include one to one help in pruning, planting, weeding, and watering. Garden group takes trips to Kew Gardens, and includes a tea and cake hour for talking.
