• Our new ‘Foods of the World’ project is all about recipe sharing and getting to know our magnificently diverse community by supporting people to share their favourite recipes with one another and the wider community through our cafe.

Foods of the World volunteers work together to prepare healthy, delicious vegetarian meals with food surplus to be sold at our Saturday Community Café. Our café is used by people of all ages and backgrounds including those facing isolation and disadvantage.

Flexible commitment, training provided and a chance to give back to your community. Plus a free lunch of course!

Role Aim: 

• Every Saturday we pop -up and serve delicious, healthy, affordable lunches to the local area 11am -2pm, bringing people together from all different cultures, faiths, backgrounds, ages, interests and identities through our mutual love of food!

• Our new ‘Foods of the World’ project starting in 2019 is all about recipe sharing and getting to know our magnificently diverse community by supporting people to share their favourite recipes with one another and the wider community through our cafe.

• You will be helping in the kitchen to make these recipes come to life (including your own favourite recipe if you would like!), learning all about where the dish originates from, the different flavours and techniques involved, and then sharing a meal together.

Duties: 

• Working as a team with a wide range of people in your community to bring a recipe to life.

• Using a variety of kitchen equipment such as mixers and knives. Washing kitchen work surfaces and floors and performing general cleaning tasks in accordance with the cleaning rota.

• You will also help the Kitchen Lead to help keep the kitchen running smoothly and make sure everything is clean, tidy, safe and hygienic.

• Sharing skills and knowledge about food.

• Following kitchen set -up and close -down procedures.

Being conscious of food health and safety at all times. Ensuring kitchen equipment is cleaned and stored correctly and safely

Skills needed: 

No particular skills or experience needed, however enthusiasm, flexibility and a love of food are a must!

Training: 

Food Hygiene training provided.

Support provided with recipe design and sharing if needed

Opening times: 
• We have shifts at the cafe available on Saturdays 9am -11am, 11 -1pm and 1pm -finish (usually about 3.30pm). Or lots of our volunteers do all three shifts and stay the whole day. We ask volunteers to do 12 shifts over the course of a year – so this could be one per month, or several closer together if you prefer. Commitment is really flexible and you sign up for shifts you would like in advance on the rota
