Helpline Volunteer

Calling all good listeners interested in mental health!

OCD Action relies on the dedication of volunteers to make sure that we are there to help people in need and that our message can get out. Our team of Helpline volunteers respond to calls on our helpline and the emails we receive asking for support. Helpline volunteers need to be able to travel to Central London (Islington) for their initial training and for their on-going work on the Helpline.

Mental Health Champions

The Manor Gardens Welfare Trust was founded in 1913. Our services are dedicated to promoting good mental health, physical health and wellbeing across Islington.

The Wellbeing Service @ Manor Gardens is currently looking to recruit new Mental Health Champion Volunteers.

Mental Health Champions are a community of individuals actively starting conversations around mental health.

This can be done through putting on events, attending meetings and starting conversations with their colleagues and friends to reduce the stigma around mental health.

Healthy Minds Academy Volunteer

The Camden Hub is launching the Healthy Minds Academy to help us build a network of volunteering opportunities aimed at increasing wellbeing through creating events and activities accessible to the whole community. This is a unique learning opportunity in which you can be part of real meaningful change for the community and health and social care sector more broadly. We are looking for people with a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences who are enthusiastic about improving wellbeing of the community.

Our volunteer roles offer support, information and guidance to people affected by mental illness:

Befriender

Organisation: 

Our volunteer Befrienders play an incredibly important role, offering those in need the opportunity to talk and be befriended without pressure or judgement. They enable the guests to feel understood and valued. Besides befriending guests, we ask our volunteers to help with admin and some light cooking and food preparation. You also have the opportunity to help out with publicity, although this is optional.

Peer Mentor

Organisation: 

Mentoring can be an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience! Not only will you be helping someone else develop their own skills and well-being, but you will also have a lot to gain from it.

Mentors experience increasing levels of empowerment, self-esteem and increased confidence, as well as the ability to cope with their own mental health issues. Peer Support benefits everyone, not just the mentor!

Trusts Officer

Stoll is both a housing association and a charity and for almost 100 years, we have provided homes and support services for vulnerable Veterans (ex-Armed Forces personnel). We have four housing schemes in London and our office is based at our largest scheme, Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions, in the Fulham Road Apart from providing housing, we also provide support services, to ensure that Veterans are equipped to live independently.

Psychology / Mental Health Placement Student

Outreach Volunteer

Organisation: 

Betknowmore UK have developed an innovative outreach model and we are looking for motivated individuals to develop their skills and support the outreach team. We are working in conjunction with the industry in a landmark pilot project which promises to expand and touch the lives of people affected by gambling related harm. We are the first accredited outreach programme for gamblers in the UK and we hope to have gambling harm recognised by the government and department of health this year. Individuals who work with us can expect plenty of scope for growth, development and fun!

Volunteer/Placement Student

We are looking for people with a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences who are enthusiastic about improving the wellbeing of the community as a whole. You’ll gain valuable, hands-on, front-line experience, learn our way of working and have the opportunity to make a real difference in your community and the health and social care sector more broadly.

Charity Shop Volunteer

Organisation: 

Our busy, successful shop on Camden Road sells entirely donated goods whose profits provide important income for Mind in Camden. It is not part of a national chain and all the income goes to Mind in Camden. We are looking for reliable volunteers to help run the shop.

Ideally, you would be available for one day per week between 10am and 6pm for a minimum of six months. However we welcome volunteers with as little as 3 hours to spare – what is really important is consistency and reliability!

Befriending

Organisation: 

Befriending Volunteers at Look Ahead will be passionate about helping others. Mainly the role is about befriending someone who may be lonely or vulnerable. A befriender will provide the customer with companionship and support, both practical and emotional.

Phoenix Wellbeing & Recovery Volunteers

Organisation: 

Interested in supporting people who are experiencing mental distress’ Do you have an open mind and a keen interest in mental health and wellbeing? This could be the role for you.

The Phoenix Recovery Volunteers provide various forms of support to members of our Phoenix Service to assist and promote their recovery. They work alongside paid Senior Recovery Workers, Specialist Sessional Contractors and other volunteers. The Phoenix service is based in the heart of Camden Town.

Skills for Work Advisor

Are you passionate about making the labour market fair for all? Would you like to help prevent exploitation in the workplace? Are you a Spanish and English speaker? If yes, then, this volunteer role might be for you!

Dementia Befriending Volunteer

Organisation: 

Visiting someone living with dementia or memory loss is very rewarding. We are looking for people who can commit to making a weekly visit to someone for a year, to help alleviate isolation and keep these older people engaged with their communities. People live all over Camden, so a willingness to travel is necessary.

Completion of on-line training in Dementia Awareness is a prerequisite to becoming a befriender.

Other training is provided and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.

CALM HQ Help

Do you want to make a difference to people affected by suicide? Come into CALM HQ to help us support our supporters to raise money for and awareness of CALM. We’ve had a massive increase in orders and can’t fulfil them without the help of excellent people like you!

CALM works to prevent male suicide, the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. We provide a helpline and webchat services and campaign to change the conversation about masculinity and suicide.

Befriender Volunteer

Would you like to make a difference in a vulnerable person’s life, if yes, you are welcome to volunteer with One Support. We offer a number of volunteering roles for you and if you have an expertise creative, music, sports you are welcome to volunteer, you will really help our people access the community and achieve their goals.
