Black History Month

Since 1987, the United Kingdom has formally celebrated Black History Month each October.

Claudia Jones was a feminist, political activist, visionary, and pioneering journalist. Jones was born in Trinidad in 1915. After living and working in the United States, where she was an active member of the American Communist Party, Jones was exiled to the UK in 1955.

We are celebrating this year’s Black History Month with the theme: Saluting Our Sisters. Black people have always been at the forefront of social justice movements, fighting against oppression and paving the way for change.

In the UK, October is the dedicated month for uplifting, uncovering, and celebrating Black history.

The Black History Month pass is part of an initiative that we are launching at TeamUCL during Black History Month. If you are a black student at UCL, this pass entitles you to access all designated Sports Club open sessions between Monday 23rd of October and Sunday 6th November
