Arjun Patel

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
As your sports officer I hope to:
• Expanding resources and facilities for teams, including welfare resources, and simplifying the process of accessing these resources from the union.
• Expand varsity by building greater hype within the wider UCL community through wider promotion and creating a greater sense of university pride and making varsity more accessible to supporters by providing transport opportunities to and from events.
• Creating an online platform for Team UCL where people can view upcoming competitions and previous results, and contact teams to encourage collaboration.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Hey, I’m Arjun. I have been a prominent member of UCL cheerleading club for the past 3 years including holding the position of social sec for the club for the past 2 years. As social sec I have worked and collaborated with many of the other teams to create some incredible socials. I am incredibly approachable and open minded and I want to create an environment within our sports teams that’s fun and inclusive but also one where people feel comfortable approaching me with concerns or ideas to ensure that we can Team UCL enjoyable and accepting of everyone.

Anything else?
Sports has an incredible ability to bring us together. For many students, myself included, our sports teams have created lifelong friendships and an incredible sense of community. It is more important now, more than ever, to ensure that we continue to provide those opportunities for students.

Saiff Hamid / James Maidment

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
We would be committed to making improvements across TeamUCL, and plan to do this through three main channels. First, TeamUCL Restart: We would aim to increase support from the Union in guiding clubs through the transition from a Covid-year to restarting regular activities. Second, Supporting Clubs: We want to reduce barriers in getting involved in sport and improve the Development Awards to best guide you. Third, Supporting Members: We want to support members by pushing for equality, diversity and inclusion and levelling up the support of mental health.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
We have held 7 different leadership positions in the Union between us, including all the executive positions. We know the ins and outs of how the system works and have a wealth of experience in all areas of running a sports club. As a Sports Rep this year, James implemented a lot of positive change, for example setting up Pride in Sport training for every TeamUCL member. Furthermore, we have experienced playing sports at every level: a first team player and a beginner. This means we know the problems people across all levels of sport face and will push to make each area excel.

Anything else?
Some of the main things we hope to achieve: change the Development Awards, reduce barriers, initiatives to improve diversity & inclusion as well as student welfare and a more active TeamUCL sustainability campaign. Link to our full manifesto: https://sway.office.com/p21pRkZOfZUBKUgH?ref=Link
