Amendment to Governing Document AGD1303 Amendment to delete the Slade section Proposer: Ben Towse Passed: Union Council, 3 June 2014 UCLU Notes 1. A Slade Students’ Section was created in the 2013 Bye-Law reforms 2. No candidates ran to be the convenor of the section in either Spring or Autumn 2013 or Spring 2014, and little interest has been shown in the section, so it has been inactive and does not exist in anything but name. UCLU Believes 1. It is potentially confusing to have representative structures that are totally inactive, as students cannot be sure who is meant to represent them. 2. Given the lack of interest in having a formal section, Slade students appear to be represented perfectly fine by having course reps, department reps and faculty reps and there isn’t a specific reason to retain a section for them. 3. This section was not created on the basis of Slade students organising and requesting it, or because there was a pressing issue in which Slade students were seriously disadvantaged. If something like this happened in future, it would always be possible to bring it back. UCLU Resolves 1. To remove the Slade Students’ Section by deleting 3.6.d.vi. (defines the section) from the Bye-Laws. 2. To remove the Slade Students’ Officer by deleting 9.14.n. (the officer job description) from the Bye-Laws.
