Purpose of the job

To provide the opportunity to develop and maximise the footballing ability of our members both individually and collectively as a team, resulting in improved standards in training and matches.

Job Description

RUMS FC are the UCL medical school football team. We have 4 teams who compete twice a week in a variety of BUCS and LUSL leagues, with our first team competing in the top LUSL league in London.

We are extremely interested in hiring a coach to raise our standards as a club as well as ensure our members have the opportunity to develop and maximise their footballing ability whilst at university.

Throughout the year, the coach should run organised and enjoyable training sessions to boost and encourage training attendance of members from all 4 teams. The coach should run challenging training sessions to test the ability of first team players, whilst making the sessions inclusive and enjoyable for all players, regardless of ability.

Whilst the weekly training sessions involve all members of the club, the coach will be required to attend every 1st team match every Wednesday and Saturday.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • To run organised training sessions every week
  • To attend the 1st team matches every Wednesday and Saturday
  • To maintain the enjoyable inclusive environment within the club

Specific Duties

With the help of the 1s captain and president, to:

  • Help allocate members to the suitable team based on their abilities at trials at the start of the year
  • Run organised yet enjoyable weekly hour long training sessions on a Monday, accommodating a range of abilities from the 4 teams
  • Pay particular attention to different phases of match play in training eg set pieces, defensive shape, counter attack etc
  • Maintain an enjoyable element to training to encourage a high weekly turnout
  • Attend and manage the 1st team matches every Wednesday and Saturday

Other duties

  • Advise the president and 1st team captain on players who should be promoted/demoted to different teams based on their performances in training/ matches throughout the year
  • Liaise with the 1st team captain the day before a match to ensure a full squad is available

Person Specification

An enthusiastic coach who leads organised, creative and enjoyable training sessions inclusive for all members whilst motivating players and improving our competitive edge. Being able to run sessions that both challenge the teams whilst remaining enjoyable is key.

No UEFA qualifications are required and coaches of all experience are encouraged to apply.
