Though this year has been rather unfortunate for events, writers should never put down their pens. There will be no way to stop us from sharing our prose, poetry, and anything in between. The show truly goes on all the time! Regardless of what happens next academic year, if I get elected as the events manager, I will make sure that every event you attend feels like a celebration. A celebration of budding literary talent and all the different ways each of us has of painting the world with words. As one of the key events, I will focus on hosting monthly open mics, with some possibly being thematic around seasonal celebrations or pre-selected themes chosen through voting. We could also get creative with costumes, spaces, and venues (when we go back to in-person events) to make every open mic truly special and fun! Surely, suggestions will always be welcome because the purpose of our events will be to cheer each other on and pull great writing out of the silence of Word documents. I will also concentrate on reaching out to guest speakers and student societies to organize special events with advice for our writing journeys and other interests. I would also like to host more writing workshops with other student publications so that we could get a chance to meet new people and experiment with different topics and ways of writing together. Lastly, if elected as the events manager, I will make sure that every event leaves you feeling like part of the writers’ family.
