Carl Thorkell
During my time at Allakando — one of Sweden’s major education management companies, I increased our average quarterly sales conversion rate by 22% and implemented several improvements to our efficiency as an organisation. Being Outreach Director for UCL’s United Nations Association would not only align with my personal aspirations but signify a definite step in the direction I want to take while satisfying an interest in the interdisciplinary aspects of legal norms, political action and economic activity.

Through my Swedish identity and by studying in London, I have come to recognise an understanding of diversity as an essential strategy in tackling the challenges of an increasingly globalised society — something I have also experienced while competing in Model United Nations. This belief was further reinforced when I coordinated and moderated a political debate, with an audience of around 500, between regional politicians and Members of Parliament ahead of the Swedish general election, thus directly coming in contact with the incredibly polarised political climate in Sweden.

As such, I have had the opportunity to develop both interpersonal skills and the necessary skills in dealing with event management, including but not limited to financing as well as booking arrangements.

Therefore, through my time and effort, I aspire to foster the engagement and achievements of others as the Outreach Director for UCL’s United Nations Association.
Clementine Bachelart
Hi! I’m Clementine, a first year Philosophy Politics and Economics student. I’m applying for the Outreach Director role at UCL UNA and hope to be able to bring my dynamism and ideas to this wonderful society!

My aims if elected are:
- To make connections with other societies and organisations to bring new insights and dynamism in the UCL UNA: reach out to other societies in the same field (International Relations and Diplomacy societies…) or in others (Student Action for Refugees, Climate Action Society…)
- To organise events around topics that truly matter to you and make the most of the relations we have and of university facilities and staff that surround us

You might then ask why I’m a good fit for achieving all that. Well, I am:
- Organised and experienced in event setting, as I organised a Young Alumni Forum
- Trustworthy as I’ve demonstrated through years of volunteering responsibilities, and especially as an animator
- Enthusiastic and keen to get involved in the society
- Enterprising and not afraid to reach out to others to set up new projects
- Reachable and always ready to listen to new propositions

Thanks for your trust! :))
Zihan Xuan
Hello! I am Zi Han, a first-year PPE student running to be UCLUNA’s Outreach Director.

I believe I am a suitable candidate for this role for two reasons. First, I have extensive experience in MUN, having chaired 7 conferences across Singapore and London, and currently serving as a MUN Development Officer at UNAYP-UK.

Furthermore, I have a keen interest in international development, and I hope to build on the partnership leads that I currently have with external organisations, as an incoming intern at the American think tank Milken Institute, a volunteer with Care4Calais, and one of the 50 mentees of the OxFID 2021 mentorship programme.

If elected, I will strive for these priorities:
- Organise interactive events with a diverse range of interest groups within UCL, as well as across other UK and European universities
- Push for regular in-person visits and trips to external organisations, including NGOs, policy institutes, and embassies, subject to prevailing restrictions
- Expand the committee of volunteering and careers officers and initiate an exclusive resource hub, to enable society members to facilitate their professional development

If any of these ideas resonated with you, I will be incredibly grateful to have your support.

Thank you!
