Johara Meyer
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
Hi! I'm Johara, a human geographer eager to make sustainability more accessible!
Here's the plan:

Share n' Repair
- host an end-of-year swap shop to trade household items
- set-up repair equipment rental (screwdriver, bike pump etc.)

Student Life
- guide on how and what to recycle
- make active travel to campus accessible to all students
- spotlight existing projects/events at UCL and in the surrounding area

Hold UCL Accountable
- divest from Amazon, Nestlé, HS2 etc.
- provide a progress report on sustainability commitments
- change to catering provider w/ more vg&veg options

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Over the past two years, I've been involved with Fridays for Future in my hometown of Berlin and have photographed and organised various protests and campaigns. Recently, I wrote an article for Climate Action Society about how climate activism "stayed alive" there during the pandemic.

I am also a student member of the Sustainability Council, which has introduced me to many of UCL's sustainability projects and given me insight into how changes are implemented and contested at our uni.

Additionally, I am currently an editor for my department's student magazine, the Bloomsbury Geographer.

Anything else?
One more point to add to the plan:

Communication
- I will send out a newsletter each term
- use data visualisations and photography to ease understanding

Summer Wyatt-Buchan / Sara Chemello
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
Our aim is to ensure that UCL is deserving of its reputation as a People and Planet leading sustainable institution. We propose to:

Increase transparency and awareness of current strategies through a sustainability newsletter
Encourage student feedback through polls and office hours
Ensure affordability and accessibility in all changes made
Workshops on how to respectfully advocate for the environment
Support for unique departmental and society events
Incentivise green food and package-free options in the SU
Transform study spaces with greenery
Work alongside Sustainable UCL

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Summer has experience as a sustainability analyst and as a Sustainable UCL ambassador. Sara created a Sustainability club at her previous school and organized various climate activist events. We both have experience with institutions and representing student voices. These are examples of roles that have taught us how to articulate and understand the challenges that come with implementing effective sustainability initiatives. We are proactive, approachable, adaptable, and enthusiastic. Together we will make it easier for students to engage with sustainability at UCL - now and in the future.

Anything else?
Sustainability is about more than just recycling, it is to be equitable, affordable and innovative. To ensure UCL has all these qualities we will lead a green recovery as we return to campus. The time to act is now and we have the potential and responsibility to do so.
