My commitment to the role of Vascular Surgery Chair in 2020/21 showed me just how important and diverse vascular surgery is, not only in its own right, but also as a foundation to so many other surgical specialties represented in the society. Because the vasculature of the body supports all other organ systems, it has the ability to interlink the interests of all members of the society as they take key steps towards their careers in surgery. Whether it be learning about aneurysms in neurosurgery, or ligating arteries in general surgery, vascular surgery skills are incredibly versatile, and if re-elected I would take this opportunity to ensure that members of the society are adequately equipped with such a skillset. Last year I achieved widespread national and international attendance and recognition of UCL vascular surgery events, and in the coming year I would love to take this a step further by introducing a new seminar/webinar series, entitled “In Our Blood”, within which vascular surgeons from different disciplines will be invited to deliver bi-weekly talks, Q&A’s, and case discussions, with the aim of inspiring students, guiding them through clinical dilemmas, and helping them with vascular surgery portfolio building.
