Aleksandra Goch
As an Ophthalmology Chair for the year 2020/2021, I had a chance to get more understanding in what it takes to be a Committee Member. I managed to organise 3 ophthalmology-themed events this year, and knowing the obstacles I faced this year I know I can deliver even better educational opportunities for the SurgSoc Members.
Learning from your fantastic feedback and ideas, I am certain the next academic year will be even better in terms of the Ophthalmology events.
I am planning to:
- organise introductory talk to speciality training
- collaborate with doctors and organisations to prepare students to Duke Elder Examination
- collaborate with other Societies to deliver joint events, like study and revision session
- depending on availability and epidemic situation, offer shadowing posts for students in the field on Ophthalmology

I hope you will consider re-electing me as an Ophthalmology Chair for the next year.
All the best,
Yousif Ali
Hello everyone,

As your Ophthalmology chair, I wish to multiply exposure to this highly rewarding speciality & allow more of you to develop the connections and knowledge required to succeed in your applications. I will work towards this with the introduction of a mentoring and partnership scheme with Ophthalmology trainees, allowing you to have tailored support, the opportunity for shadowing, and potential collaborations on research projects. Further to this, I will strive to run regular thought provoking and inspirational events presented by leading clinicians and taking advantage of our world-renowned, Moorfields Eye Hospital. Lastly, I hope to introduce practical workshops for students to experience the speciality hands-on.

Throughout my time at medical school, I have developed the skills & expertise to deliver successful events & initiatives. As co-neurology & neurosurgery chair for both UCL Surgical and Medical society, we ran a highly successful webinar series and are on the verge of running our international inaugural conference. As RUMS President last year, I oversaw the successful execution of large events and the implementation of new schemes such as the online feedback platform Unitu; a pivotal aspect of life in the medical school now. This built on my work as Vice-President for Education where I pushed for further transparency, increased communication with the student body, and began working on ease of access to resources.

Thank you for your support :)
