I have always been passionate about O&G; undertaking the Women’s Health iBSc, being O&G Society’s Events Director, research projects and publishing two papers within the field are just a few examples! I would love to be Chair this year to create innovative, engaging opportunities and help students gain an insight into both the clinical and academic aspects of this incredible field!
Having served as the Events Officer for both Paediatrics and O&G Societies, which included organising UCL’s first National O&G Conference, I have experienced first-hand the meticulous organisational skills, self-motivation and excellent teamwork required for the role. Being an Academic Representative and Publicity Officer for the RUMS Review has strengthened my interpersonal skills and demonstrates my reliability, creativity and adaptability.
My priorities as chair this year would be:
• An international O&G conference with more workshops and world-renowned speakers
• Events regarding cutting-edge technologies within fetal medicine and gynaecology
• Exploring the global and social aspects of O&G
• Monthly journal club about the latest advances
• CV/portfolio advice
• Clinical skills workshops e.g. delivering a baby
My experiences alongside my passion for the field have equipped me with the skillset for this role, I would be honoured to be your Chair this year!
Hello everyone,
I am Nivetha, a current 4th year student (iBSc in Women’s Health) and I would like to be next year’s Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Foetal Surgery Chair. I am passionate about O&G and would like to increase exposure to this speciality from earlier years of medical school. Being Med soc’s current O&G chair, I have led the members of the subcommittee and we collaborated with other universities and societies to run events and proudly UCL’s first ever O&G conference. This experience has equipped me with skills to be a chair of a subsection.
O&G is a unique speciality with a combination of medicine and surgery, and I would like to embrace the surgical aspect just like I did with the medicine aspect. Currently, there aren’t any obstetrics shadowing opportunities so I would Iike to collaborate with the shadowing scheme officer to provide this opportunity if possible. Moreover, next year I’ll have my O&G placement, meaning I will be able to further widen my network and that will enable me to get interesting speakers performing cutting edge surgeries. I strongly believe that I will be a great addition to the Surgical society committee.
As your current Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Foetal Surgery chair I have loved and cherished every second of this role, so much so that I am thrilled to be running once again! This year, I have organised talks regarding the role of minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of gynaecological cancers and pathways of O&G training explaining the varieties of surgical subspecialties and procedures.
I have arranged for future talks concerning the surgical treatment of infertility conditions and fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO), a new fetal surgery technique being introduced in the treatment of congenital diaphragmatic hernias, from specialists at the forefront of these fields.
Whilst these are pre-planned talks I am ready to execute, I have vast ambitions for my role and am striving to arrange even more innovative and stimulating talks including the future of uterus transplants in the UK, the potential of robotic-assisted surgery in gynaecology and a retrospective talk on obstetric services during COVID-19, which was one of the few surgical specialties that continued throughout the pandemic. I am also keen to collaborate with the Education Officers and Anatomy Society to expand on existing pelvic & perineum anatomy tutorials to cover female anatomy in as much depth as male anatomy during the Year 2 ESR module.
Committed to and enthusiastic about women’s health, I am excited to see what more I can bring to this role and the committee if elected another year!
