Hi, I'm Stephen and I am running for General Surgery Chair!

General surgery is one of the largest surgical specialties in the UK, alongside trauma and orthopaedics. It is inevitably broad, with subspecialties including vascular, colorectal, upper GI, transplant, breast and endocrine. Its size and breadth mean it deserves large representation within UCL Surgical Society. Hence, as Chair, I would endeavour to showcase general surgery and its subspecialties in turn. General surgery is also at the forefront of many minimally invasive techniques. Returning to life on campus, I want to make clinical skills sessions a reality again, with a laparoscopic surgery workshop, or a collab with Vascular for a bowel and vascular anastomosis workshop.

Other roles
- UCL Surgical Society: Cardiothoracic Surgery Chair (20/21), organising 4 talks.
- UCL’s Next Top Doctor: Project Leader (20/21)
- RUMS Review: Research Editor (19-21)
- British Undergraduate Cardiovascular Association: Greater London Rep (20/21)

I believe my experience leading and being part of a committee has helped me develop the necessary skills to succeed as Chair. Additionally, being supervised by a HPB and Liver Transplant Surgeon from the Royal Free has and will continue to open the door to networking and general surgery opportunities that I would integrate into this role. Overall, I am committed to surgery, I see my responsibilities through, and I know I can deliver as the next General Surgery Chair.
