The social aspect is undeniably very prominent at UCL snowsports: having an iconic night out at Loop, a missing eyebrow along the way and drinking a few suspicious drinks from a ski boot is all part of the snowsports lifestyle.
However, all fun aside, the well being of our members comes before everything else. It can be nerve wracking especially as a fresher to participate and engage in a community, this why I want to make sure that everyone feels welcome, appreciated and comfortable enough to enjoy the lifestyle to its fullest! I want to create fresher oriented events by mixing them in groups of skiers, snowboarders and freestylers with more seasoned members and by organizing monthly diners, allowing bonding and catching up over some nice food. Also, diversifying socials and adding a few less alcohol-driven events like treasure hunts, karaoke nights and game nights could encourage more members to actively participate in the society. Collaborating and creating socials with other societies could be an interesting way to swap interests and engage in something different. This year I was committed to snowsports and attended many events, which enabled me to extend my social connections and meet great people! Being part of multiple societies (sub-committee of photography society) I have learned to apply my social skills to various settings, and adapt to any situation. I'd be thankful for you to put your trust in me to meet your welfare needs to the best of my ability! :)

Hi! My name is Emil Werner and I have been a passionate skier since I started walking. The Snowsports Club supports this affection and I would therefore now love to become its next Welfare Social Secretary. While this year has been a very different one and there has been a lack of in-person activities and trips, I have still been able to join various fun online meet-ups that the society has hosted and gotten to know the social scene of the committee. From this great experience, I would like to help propel the society even further by organising plenty of events when the world is hopefully back to normal again. All of us, especially us freshers, have missed out on sport nights, parties and balls tremendously and I will do my best to be a driving factor in ensuring that we can make up for it next year. On top of that, the charity work that goes into this role is a large interest of mine, because of my years of experience as president of a charity organisation back in high school. I hope my future ambitions and the background I’ve got can show that I am suitable for this position.
As a Welfare Social Secretary I would like to:

Organise creative and inclusive events throughout the year and on the trips for every member to enjoy.
Push to bring back Sports Nights.
Find new and efficient ways to raise money towards good initiatives.

Thanks for your attention and feel free to send in any questions to [email protected]
Joel Goddard
Hi, I’m Joel, and I’m pretty sure that after a year of being stuck inside staring at our laptops for hours on end, there’s only one thing we all want... to get out and have a good time! That’s why I’m committed to not only making the most out of every single opportunity that comes to me this year, but also to create as many opportunities for myself and others as well! I had great time this year with zoom socials, everyone made me feel incredibly welcome during my first year, and I’m sure that will continue when we finally all get together in person. I want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to enjoy themselves as much as possible, and I have a host of ideas for social events, from quizzes, nights out with fancy dress themes, competitions and more! I also want to continue families, as I think they’re a great way of getting to know people, and helping new members settle in. As well as that, I’m committed to making sure that we continue our great charity efforts, making sure we can help out people less fortunate than we are. I’m approachable and friendly, happy to listen to anyone who wants to talk about any concerns they might have, and really just want to make everyone feel as comfortable and included as I did. That’s why I’m running for social secretary, to do my part in creating a great Snowsports experience for everyone. I certain I would be a good fit for this role, and I hope you give me the chance to prove it.
