The Singapore Society has been like a 2nd home to me making me feel welcomed and helped me to ease into uni life when I just came out of NS, lost and dumbfounded. I would like to give back to the society and strive to make it so that future freshers and post-graduates alike will not feel as lost and view the society as solace from the rigour of uni. Before matriculating, I was a secretary during my time in NS having plenty of experience preparing and facilitating meetings. I also have experience with writing meeting minutes, general administrative work and platforms such as Zoom and Teams . If elected, I hope to organise the admin if necessary and streamline the announcements of daily activities using the UCL email as a way to reach out to more members on top of the current methods used. I humbly request for your vote.

I believe I am a good fit for this role as I possess good communication skills, which will allow me to communicate with other committee members effectively and efficiently such as to help to ensure the smooth functioning of the committee, which will in turn add towards a good working relationship among members, especially when coordinating and executing initiatives. This entails more effectual and productive initiative outcomes. Additionally, I am highly organised and am able to take on various administrative tasks such as managing deadlines and handling correspondence with external organisations efficiently.
If elected, my utmost priority would be having a well-organised committee as this would also entail better planned initiatives being conducted for the rest of the society. This includes establishing a consistently high level of communication between members, as well as ensuring meetings are well organised and minuted, such that everyone is up to date with any new developments. This will ensure that members of the rest of the society will be able to obtain accurate, up to date information regarding certain initiatives or events by approaching any member of the committee, thus cutting down the additional time needed to verify with other members and avoids confusion and delays in this manner. This will promote stronger ties and a greater level of confidence between committee members and the rest of the society, thus contributing towards a more cohesive and bonded society.

Just like any typical first year, I did not know what to expect when I first joined UCL (especially in this economy). The apprehension I felt when facing a whole new environment, as well as the debilitating fear that I will end up with no friends, quickly abated when UCLSS first reached out with well planned talks and events.

I knew then that this society will truly be a home away from home when I eventually get to London. The committee and society members were all very welcoming as well as more than willing to help each other out, and it was here where I made my first friends from UCL. Hence, I would love to play a part in maintaining this atmosphere as your Secretary.

My priority would be to ensure that everyone feels at home in the society, and I aim to do so by focusing on two things: ensuring inclusivity and streamlining outreach. Ensuring inclusivity means planning events that can cater to people of all backgrounds, as well as taking a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to harassment. As for streamlining outreach, I wish to ensure that information sent out will be available on all platforms, allowing members to easily access information they need without combing through different accounts.

My experience in UCLSS has been amazing so far, so I hope that you will give me the chance to be your Secretary, and I promise I will continue ensuring UCLSS is your home away from home.
