As the FYR of UCLSS, I have reached out to first-years to better understand their needs. Realising that there is a need for more social interaction amongst members, I wish to focus on pushing for more in-person social events such as Easter Ball and Boat Party. In order to incorporate diversity into the group of individuals members can expect to meet, I will strive to collaborate with societies within and outside of UCL. Other than socials, I also hope to lead the committee in assisting members in their career and academic endeavours through mentorship programmes. As part of a wider aim to better involve Postgraduates, I wish to include Postgraduates as mentors in the mentorship programmes, create the role of a Postgraduate Representative and roll out Postgraduate-focused events. I believe this would promote the ideals of inclusivity in our society.

I am well-suited for the role as I have experience working in a similar role. As the President of the Dunman High School Youth Alumni (UK) Group, I have worked effectively with my committee to grow the group and organise social events to help bring members closer together. Seeking to increase engagement with members, we have also grown our online presence which I believe to be crucial in today's digital world. I believe the parallels between my experience and the role I'm running for will enable me to be a strong candidate as the President of UCLSS. I hope to gain your support in fulfilling my vision for Singsoc, thank you!

Hello!! I am Shao Ren, a First Year PPE student, and I hope to represent all of you as President of Singapore Society!!
You may ask: "what can Shao Ren offer to Singsoc?" Well, I will not promise anything concrete. I cannot guarantee organising x number of events or increasing our participation rate to a specific number if I am elected.
However, I will commit 3 things instead - time, friendship and leadership. Time is something which I can control, and if elected, I will not shy away from putting in the hours and effort required to run this society. Next, friendship. I hope to be a friend to every single member, and someone who they can look to for support and a listening ear. Lastly, leadership. Every organisation requires someone to exercise decision-making. He or she must be able to make tough decisions for the benefit of the society. I believe that my past leadership experiences have placed me in a good position to exercise the required judgement needed in making executive decisions for our society.
"Is Shao Ren even the right man for the job?"
I believe that I have the passion and aptitude to lead this society, but this question is ultimately not something which I am able to answer independently. If what I said resonated with you, I would be really grateful for your trust and I will not let you down!
Thank You!!
