Though participating in the SikhSoc football team has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, Covid-19 regulations have heavily limited sports activities this year. As SikhSoc Sports Secretary for the 2021/2022 year, I would ensure that I maximise the society's sports involvement.
Firstly, I would make sure to incorporate the views and opinions of the society as a whole when making decisions. For example, with various different sports available, it is important that I listen to the society's members regarding which sports they would like to be offered. Football has shown to be popular, and forming a SikhSoc team to participate in a league, involving regular fixtures against various other society teams would be a priority. As mentioned before, taking part in the league this year was a great experience.
In addition, I would look to offer a number of different sports activities on a regular basis. This could include competitive sessions against other societies, but also casual sessions against other members of SikhSoc. For instance, badminton sessions every fortnight may serve as a good way to socialise, keep fit and also de-stress. Such sessions could run across a few different sports, so that everyone feels there is a sport for them.
Ultimately, through regular and effective communication, I would try my best to meet the various requests and ideas of the society's members, in order to create a fulfilling and sporty experience for everyone in the Sikh Society.
