Hello! I'm Gabija, a First-Year Spanish student running to be your next Welfare and Communications Officer.
Why am I standing for this position? You may ask. As I'm sure you can imagine, an important part of this role involves overseeing the society's social media pages and keeping members up to date about events and classes taking place. I believe I would be a good fit for this role as, having run a blog and accompanying social media platforms for several years, I have amassed a lot of experience that I can bring to the table.
Additionally, I am eager to use these platforms to promote the society and encourage new members to join. Having had no dance experience whatsoever prior to joining UCL, I am aware of how daunting it can be and believe that my personal experience makes me well equipped to deal with such matters.
Similarly, I would like to be a friendly face that members can approach if they have any concerns or suggestions as to how the society can be improved. Again, I believe having previous experience in the way of mentoring and leadership roles makes me a good fit for doing so.
If there's one thing that this challenging year has proven, it's that a Welfare and Communications role is now more important than ever, and it would be a pleasure to take on this role in the near future to ensure the society's overall enjoyment and inclusivity.
Having had experience as Comms officer this year I would like to continue being part of the Salsa society committee, hopefully getting to see some of your faces in person next year.
