Hi! I’m a second year Comparative Literature student and I would love to be Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Pi Media.

As someone who belongs to various minority groups, I understand from personal experience the value of community and the importance of finding that sense of belonging at university. This year, I have been working with other Student Reps in my cohort to ensure that marginalised students in our department feel safe and that their needs are met. I hope to bring this familiarity with equality issues to my role as Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Pi Media has always been a bridge between different student communities and I aim to ensure our content is inclusive to our diverse body. I plan to work with our Social Media Officer to include Alt Text and closed captions on our online channels, to make our content accessible for visually impaired people. I also hope to collaborate with other UCL societies like the LGBT+ Network, African Caribbean Society, and Gender and Feminism Society during social awareness events, perhaps organised as social media takeovers, to ensure our content is inclusive and to promote good relations. Pi Media has incredible outreach and it is necessary that we engage with and cater to our student body.

As your Diversity and Inclusion Officer, I hope to continue the work of previous members by cultivating a culture of inclusivity, so that Pi Media is a welcoming point for all students, regardless of their backgrounds.

Hi! I'm Nadia, an English student and current Pi Lifestyle Editor, and I would love to be your Diversity & Inclusion Officer next year! As a Woman Of Colour I have an insight into several experiences and concerns of minority groups, and I want to ensure Pi remains a space where everyone is represented, welcome, and celebrated. Some of the ideas I have for next year include:
- Organising big mingles/networking panel events in collaboration with other UCL media societies and SU networks, where students can meet both professional and student journalists who are like themselves
- Establishing Pi Online columns about minority student experiences, written by Pi members from these groups!
- Increasing coverage during key History Months/Days by promoting when they are happening on Slack and suggesting and inviting articles for all sections
- Working with the SU networks to stay updated on what topics are hot to them and attract writers/interviewees to cover these
- Ensuring our art and photography is always visually inclusive across all platforms
UCL and Pi have amazingly diverse communities, and this year at Pi I have striven to encourage and celebrate this as both a writer and an editor. I would be delighted to represent you as D&I Officer at Pi next year!
