Hey everyone! My name is Malika, I’m studying cancer biomedicine at UCL and applying for Social Secretary.
This year I was a freshers’ representative in Photo society. I held multiple events, like chill socials on Saturdays and “food” socials, took part in numerous society events, e.g. photo walks and online photoshop workshops.
This role was really important to me and taught me to be resilient, proactive and cheerful which was especially needed in the Covid environment. I learned how to host events using zoom, prepare a topic of conversation and set up my camera to take beautiful pictures. As you can imagine, photo society is a lot about talking with people and taking shots offline, however having had events online ,no matter how hard that was, I encouraged people to join live sessions and was happy to talk with 1,2 or more people that attended the event. I have a broad range of interests, like social media marketing, finance fundamentals and of course biology.I also joined other societies in UCL, for example art, British sign language and nature conservation societies. This will help me talk about lots of various topics, outside the world of art and I will be keen to join you, whatever you feel to do or talk about.
In my opinion, to be a successful social secretary, it is significant to have prior experience in organising social activities. Given my experience in this field coupled with strong communication and empowering skills, I will be the perfect fit for this role
