Larissa Britton
I am nominating myself for the role of president because I would like to play an orchestral role in continuing to run Nature and Conservation society and nurture the society’s drive for change.
I have been a member of the society for nearly two years now, and I am currently on the committee as volunteering officer. I am familiar with how things work, and I love working with the committee and listening to everyone’s ideas.
Nature and conservation are closely intertwined with, arguably inseparable from, racial justice. I want to promote how increasing the cohesiveness of these movements is the best way to ensure the conservation and inclusivity of our green spaces and nature in general.
We as a society can increase awareness and educate our members by organising more events that amplify the voices of those underrepresented in conservation.
Working with local schools is also something I would like to do. This would be really fun, and empowering youth is key, particularly girls (here I’m thinking of birdwatching which is pretty male-dominated). Increasing involvement and diversity in our society and its reach will be a priority.
