Hi! I'm Ian and I'm running for the role of acapella manager.

Perhaps unusually for someone who does acapella, I've only recently watched the movie Pitch Perfect. I mean I've loved the music since they've been out but I suspected the show would be a bit like Glee — great music terrible storyline.

I could not be more wrong. The way acapella was portrayed has inspired me to want to change the way acapella is run to make it more exciting — two hours of training everyday, plus cardio, everyone should dress like flight attendants for performances, etc. etc.

(Just to be clear you know that I'm joking, right?)

In all honesty, having sung and performed with choirs and acapella groups for the past nine years have shown me what a group of singers can be to each of us — a warm, familial group of people who can trust each other to play music. And that is what I would want acapella to continue to be next year — a fun place that people would want to be committed to because it is a group that would support them in their musical endeavours.

More important, perhaps, is the music that we can create. The great thing about acapella is how collaborative and versatile it is — every song, being the joint effort of everyone, reflects all of our musical input. I want to make acapella a creative space where we can express our imagination both musically and non-musically.
Yihan (Helena) Xu
Hi! My name is Yihan (Helena) and I'm running to be your A Capella Manager.

To start off, here’s a fun fact about me: I never sang in front of people until I was 16. I was always told that my voice was too harsh and that I was never born to sing... until I joined the music group in my high school "by accident”. Things changed drastically for me after that – I found myself frequently performing on stage and even become a music group leader in my previous school.

By now, I’ve been an acapella singer for over three years, thanks to the support from the music community, and I’d love to pay back through leadership. Having experience in leading training sessions and managing administrative matters for concerts, I am confident that I’ll handle the tasks well as a manager for the Eustones.

If I were elected as your manager, I would
• Help every member catch up on technical aspects by offering crash courses and resources for interested members
• Establish a buddy scheme to pair up more experienced members with less experienced ones on a voluntary basis
• Initiate more bonding activities such as zoom study sessions and coffee chats, possibly at various timings catered to different time zones and timetables
• Work with other groups in the Society more for intergroup activities so members could make friends and have fun beyond the Eustones

Please vote for me. Together we will make the Eustones and the Music Society a better community. Thank you!
