Sports and exercise medicine (SEM) and its clinical and lifestyle relevance is undervalued in society. It is however becoming increasingly relevant and is beginning to inform our wider knowledge of health and disease. SEMSoc is the vehicle for this movement within UCL and I would relish the opportunity to spread this message, one that I am extremely passionate about. This society is one of the few sources of undergraduate SEM education and I aspire to see it flourish.

Roles on various committees such as Sales Officer of UCL Hindu Society, Chair of my school’s Medical Society, as well as Sub-Team Leader at a home improvement firm have exposed me to recruitment, delegation and leadership. Teaching and management experience puts me in an ideal position to educate our members, whilst skills in communication and advertising will set me up to create and publicise our events.

I would love to use my organisation skills and commitment to this subject to bring the following ideas to life:

1. Advertise monthly sporting achievements of RUMS students
This will encourage others to improve their fitness, whilst showcasing athletic achievements and increasing involvement in the society

2. Create weekly summaries of common sports injuries
This will keep social platforms active and heighten engagement

3. Increase fresher inclusivity and broaden reach through intra- and inter-university collaboration
Targeting freshers is key as they are most keen to join new clubs
