Having thoroughly enjoyed my role as Events Co-ordinator for GP subcommittee, I believe that the next step would be towards a leadership role. This year, I have been an integral part of organising our first GP Subcommittee conference, which tested and furthered my organisational skills, creativity and adaptability – especially as everything was hosted virtually. It also augmented my passion for public speaking, and I have pursued other opportunities since, for instance I am due to speak at a MedSoc UK event in March. Furthermore, I think that my iBSc in Global Health has enriched my appreciation for the importance of primary care in health systems around the world and I would like to continue to be part of a sub-committee that aim to convey this to fellow medical students. I acknowledge that this is no small feat, General Practice is often portrayed to be the shrinking violet amongst other specialities; however, in a leadership position I plan to assemble and support an enthusiastic team ready to challenge the misconceptions. Our team this year has re-energised the GP Subcommittee with our range of events and social media presence and I would love to take this further next year as the Chair.
