Daisy Goddard
I’m Daisy, an MA History student and member of the UCL Marxist Society.
It’s a difficult time to be a student, with job and housing insecurity paired with a lack of mental health support. Under the current conditions, overstretched mental health services systematically fail students. I believe that this current mental health crisis is symptomatic of capitalism. It’s a social product of our time that disproportionately affects the working class and minority communities. While young people are shouldering these immense burdens, however, we also have the power to do something about it. I am a Marxist because I think a less brutal existence is possible. While fighting for this future, I want to personally support those around me- in the role of Welfare Officer. I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive community at the Marxist Society; I seek to uplift, encourage, and help others, drawing on my own experiences of mental health issues as a working-class student while being eager to listen to others’ perspectives.
