Though I've never lived in India, from a young age I've always considered “where Appacha and Ammachi live” to be a part of my heritage. We Malayali’s are spread all across the world and have grown up in different cultures. Experiencing the kaleidoscope of cultures in London, it’s sometimes easy to lose touch with our roots.

The 'socially distanced' year had made it an especially challenging time to connect with others. Take it from me, a fresher, it’s easy to feel isolated and hard to meet new people. As your welfare rep I hope to create more opportunities to meet other members. I hope that we can uplift spirits through the power of Mallu Memes and Mohanlal Movies. With your support, I wish to make a Malayali society sticker pack for social media use, to express our Malayali pride.

Despite the demonym ‘Kerlites’, we have lived in many places far and wide. Wherever we come from, our shared heritage is something to take pride in. After half a year in London, mostly spent in lockdown, I have really started to miss ‘Amma’s cooking’. Another one of my goals as welfare rep is to compile a list of places in London to enjoy good Malayali cuisine. It would help to find some comfort food when feeling homesick.

I look forward to working with everyone for the success of our society!
